As the nation's largest university, the University of Zurich enjoys an outstanding position in the fields of research and education. It is bound to the highest international academic standards and committed to responsible reflection.
The University of Zurich is a member of the «League of European Research Universities» (LERU) and as such is among Europe's leading research institutions. It has an outstanding international reputation for clinical medicine, immunology, genetics and neurosciences, fields in which it has been awarded the highest distinctions. On the national level, the University has been named a «leading house» in five specialized research areas in life sciences, in finances and the humanities and social sciences. Research at the University of Zurich is conducted in accordance with a high quality standard in all fields.
With faculties teaching some 100 subjects, the University of Zurich boasts Switzerland's most diverse range of study offerings. Around 26,000 students (and counting) take advantage of courses in economics, law, the humanities, social and natural sciences, human and veterinary medicine, and theology. Masters students and postdocs can benefit, in addition to the attractive regular offerings, from specialized programmes, an excellent infrastructure and numerous continuing education opportunities. Switzerland's largest university can thus claim to be very well positioned when it comes to national and international competition for the best rising talent.
The University of Zurich provides academic services to the economy and society of the canton of Zurich and Switzerland. It puts its know-how into practice in a wide range of ways – among them in 12 museums, four hospitals and publicly accessible libraries – and passes on its findings to the interested public with an eye to target audience and diversity, as for instance in lecture series and roundtable discussions. The University of Zurich also promotes knowledge transfer in the business world and uses spin-offs and partnerships to create attractive jobs in future-oriented areas of the economy.
Like all Swiss universities, the University of Zurich complements
its mandate to provide academic training for its students with the task of
offering continuing education to university graduates as well as all those
interested in academic topics, and thus to render the latest findings from the
world of research accessible to the public. For this reason, the University of Zurich,
together with its academically qualified and committed instructors, offers a
broad range of continuing education opportunities at a high level, including
both longer-term courses of study, suited for those already embarked on a professional
career, and one-day courses. As an outstanding
education and research institution, the University of Zurich is able to guarantee
the quality of its continuing education offerings with its own good name. Its range of offerings comprises
some 50 programmes and 40 continuing education courses.
Courses are typically held at the Centre for Continuing Education, which provides the ideal environment for modern continuing education tailored to adult requirements in its 40 seminar rooms. The Centre for Continuing Education is located at Schaffhauserstrasse 228 in Zurich and can be reached by public transportation in around ten minutes from the Main Railway Station and the Oerlikon Railway Station, tram lines 10 and 14. There are some 40 paying parking places available for visitors travelling by automobile.
